Yankees to call up Jesus Montero?
The news sites are buzzing that Jesus Montero may be up in pinstripes at the end of the month. We have been hearing about the second coming of Thurman Munson for a few years now and he could use some big league at bats. Montero is having a very similar 2011 up in Scranton that he had last year. If you really break down the numbers, it looks like his 2010 might have been a little better.
Year Tm Lev Aff G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS 2010 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre AAA NYY 123 453 66 131 34 3 21 75 46 91 .289 .353 .517 .870 2011 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre AAA NYY 87 340 38 98 17 1 11 51 27 79 .288 .345 .441 .786
As you can see his average is about the same, but HR pace is lower, as well as OBP, SLG and OPS. In this day and age of sabermetrics, those are highly analyzed numbers. Hopefully he’s just bored down there because I still want him up in the bigs. Read more…
Manny Banuelos promoted to AAA. FitzandVig fired up.
The biggest move of the day for the New York Good Guys turned out to be the promotion of Manny Banuelos from 2A Trenton to 3A Scranton Wilkes Barre. Word is Jim and Pam Halpert are excited to welcome Banny (Big Triple Girardi nod) to the neighborhood. The 20 year old prospect is now the youngest player in the International League and he earned that distinction by pitching to a 3.59 ERA at 2A with a 1 to 1 inning-to-strikout ratio (Banuelos stats here). ManBan could complete his season at 3A or perhaps he’ll be a bullpen reinforcement for the big league club down the stretch. Either way, good to get Manny out from behind the shadow of the great Kei Igawa.
